Micronutrient Forum + GAIN Partner to Highlight Hidden Micronutrient Crisis
On Monday, October 17, Micronutrient Forum and GAIN will host a critical conversation highlighting the alarmingly high rates of micronutrient deficiencies present in populations across the globe.
Recent findings in a Lancet Global Health report highlight new global estimates of micronutrient deficiencies, including that 1 in 3 U.S. women suffer from micronutrient deficiencies and 1 in 2 pre-school aged children and 2 of 3 women of reproductive age worldwide have at least one micronutrient deficiency – in other words, the nutrients, vitamins, and minerals necessary to support healthy growth, immune systems, brain development, and the many other vital functions our bodies perform.
In the U.S., diet-related diseases have jumped to the number one leading cause of death for adults and nutrient deficiencies are directly tied to those outcomes. But the good news? Malnutrition is preventable.
Through innovative, scalable food systems transformations, realizing a malnutrition-free future is possible.
