Description
Technology has come a long way since 1969, when researchers, activists, business leaders
and politicians last came together to develop the agenda that would guide our nation’s
nutritional priorities for the next 53 years. Doctors’ appointments have gone virtual; food and
transportation can be summoned at the tap of a screen. But while innovation has created a
world of modern convenience for many, it has neglected the many more for whom ease of
access could substantially improve their health and wellbeing.
Recognizing the U.S.’ disproportionately high maternal mortality rate and the profound impact of
nutrition on maternal and infant health, we will be exploring practical modernization
opportunities to address health disparities in these vulnerable populations. By broadening
access and use of existing technologies and taking advantage of federal funding earmarked for
innovation, we can take incremental, yet meaningful steps to ensure mothers and children in
need have access to healthy choices—when, where and how it matters most. We invite you to
share your voice and experiences while listening to those of others as we ideate and innovate
solutions to this urgent need.
